How to apply for a Food License in Kolkata

Food businesses operating in Kolkata may require an FSSAI Registration or Licence under the applicable food-safety regulations. Applications are submitted through the official FoSCoS portal.

 

Types of FSSAI Registration and Licence

  • FSSAI Basic Registration: Generally applicable to eligible small food businesses with an annual turnover of up to ₹1.5 crore.
  • FSSAI State Licence: Generally applicable to eligible food businesses with an annual turnover above ₹1.5 crore and up to ₹50 crore.
  • FSSAI Central Licence: Generally applicable to eligible businesses with an annual turnover above ₹50 crore.

 

FSSAI Application Process

  1. Visit the official FoSCoS portal.
  2. Select the appropriate kind of business and licence category.
  3. Complete the online application.
  4. Upload the applicable documents.
  5. Pay the prescribed government fee directly through the official portal.
  6. Respond to any clarification and document request requirements raised by the authority.
  7. The concerned authority may request clarifications or additional information between 1 and 10 times during the application process, depending on the case requirements.
